Hey ND,If you move to a pc based system, you can archive all that vinyl and cds so you can have them for a very very long time, while enjoying the convenience factor.
Follow Ups:
though this computer I'm on sucks. It's a 1999 Dell L500r with a P3. I'll get a new rig after I move this summer. This one takes up too much room. Actually the monitor does. It's a huge "Dell" 17". There's an inch of dust back there.
I was thinking of running the phono stage out to my PC and archiving the vinyl at a high a resolution as I could. The idea if taking it off at 24/96 would be good, but then how much drive space would be needed for the amount of vinyl that I have... and then I would have to mirror it just to be on the safe side. In 10 or 15 years time I might even be rummaging through piles of old hard drives and reminiscing about them.
Maybe thats a vision of the future I should not look forward to... but I quite like the idea.Enjoy,
K
If you've ever heard O.K. Computer by Radiohead on vinyl, you'd be hooked for life. Most of the new vinyl I purchase is at my local record shop, so if it's warped, I can return it. (I never had to) My latest purchases on vinyl sound so much better than cd/digital, that I'll never return to CD.The mastering for vinyl is usually different from the cd masters, much better as far as compression/dynamics is concerned, and no harsh high end pushing.
Just my 2 cents.
