I would not call the Lector dark, however it certainly is not bright. It all boils down to system matching. If ones speakers and amp, pre is overly warm, I would not recommend the lector. Than I would try the ayre or something like it. I use Atma-Sphere amps and pre. The A-S electronics are not at all overly warm, in fact it is quit neutral. I also use Coincident Super Eclipse speakers. Again IMHO they are also neutral. The musical warmth, quality bass, the large sound and holographic imaging the Lector delivers with my setup is very pleasing to me. I see that SK, you are a dealer. I am sure I have not auditioned everything you have but I have had my share of cd players. The lector has no "NONE" of the digital glare that I have experienced with many other players in my home.
I have tried a few different tubes with the lector. I have discovered that the Lector responds well with different tubes. That also gives one an opportunity to taylor the sound to their liking. I have setteled for now on the Seimens 1960's 12at7. Again, IMHO I feel it is a neutral sounding tube. What I have found to be a warmer tube is the RCA command 12at7. I also listen to vinyl using the Nottingham Ace Space Deck with the new Shelter 5000 cartridge. I can not honestly say I prefer the Nott over the Lector as they are to close to call. They are different but one is not better than the other IMO. It is truley hard to give advise as everyones taste of sound seems to be different from each others. Everyones mileage does vary!!!

Follow Ups:
I have to agree with SK, I found the Lector DARK for my taste as well. I've since moved to a modded Alex P. player and still not totally saisfied but getting closer.
Peace
I'll have to chime in here and agree with sk & kaykay. The Lector 7TL was found to be on the dark side in my system as well. I did enjoy it until I tried others and it was then that this quality came through loud and clear. I tried many different tubes, power cords, but could not change this character.
Both have the same ip address 139.177.224.71Interesting!!!
SK, is there something Fishy here? Speaking of fishing, Some like to TROLL!!!
Welcome!!!!!!
Thanks BAJ
I am also wondering how Lector copes with non-audiophile CDs? I've heard a number of high end CDPs that actually demand audiphile recordings only in order to appreciate their performance. What I want is something that will make the normal CDs sounding acceptable, otherwise why spending more than $100 on a CDP.
