I have done extensive testing with burn speeds using a Plextor Premium. Using the testing features of Plextools, I have found that I get the least amount of jitter burning at 32x. I get the most jitter burning at 4x and slower. Burn speed does not affect C1 or C2 errors in my tests. I cannot tell an audible difference in any burn rate. I am using Tayo Yuden CD-R's made by Fuji.If you don't believe me, try it yourself. I think the slow burn rate has become urban legend as technology has improved. Most modern burners don't like to burn slow.

Also, I am curious, have you done similar research on an optimum Plextools ripping speed?
No, I have not tested for rip speeds. I can't tell a difference at any rip speed on the final WAV file or encoded FLAC file. For burning, I set Plextools for 32x. I don't it burns exactly at 32x the entire disk. As it moves from the inner ring to the outer ring, it speeds up slighty.
