I've asked this before but figured I'd try again...Has anyone found a way around the fact that the 3990 inserts gaps between tracks when it plays even when the tracks are supposed to run together seemlessly?
It's a nice little player but man this issue is annoying.
Follow Ups:
Did you try contacting Toshiba directly about the problem? I would not go thru the headtrip and return the unit and get another one. Mine started to not play a track's end skipping into the next track. Two days later, its fine and now it ends smoothly to a nice conclusion. I find myself sitting there noting it, weird to do this since I never paid much attention to it on my previous player Marantz SA-14.
If one one can sum its performance I would say it sounds un-mechanically right. It seems to add a warmth in the midrange that very few players do even the very hi price ones.
By the way, with the wrong interconnect it can sound mechanical so don't blame the messenger.
I have found no way around it. There have been earlier posts explaining why it happens, I think aimed at dvd playback. It is totally disconcerting and I avoid playing disks on it that do this. But having two cd players isn't much of a solution. Since I bought the Tosh on a whim to see what it's like, I don't feel too bad...the sound is good but this other thing would be a showstopper for me if it was my only player.
I don't recall my old Toshiba 3950 or Toshiba 4960 (universal player) doing this. My new Oppo 970 did this with SACD. Oppo released a firmware upgrade to fix this. So, the problem has been resolved.
no advice: sure is bad design. let's blame shubert for inventing the 3 min song.my 3990 seems to be the culprit in a hum isssue (see my recent amp/preamp post)
you got any problem like this? best wishes
No -- no hum issues. It sounds fine. The breaks between songs drives me nuts though!
thanks
