hi all,I have posted this in DIY forum but perhaps this should be the correct forum...
I was having fun tweaking my Philip DVP5500S. I got great sound by replacing the rectifiers, PS caps, and eventually removing the output Op amp 4560 altogether!
the output from CS4360 thru Sanyo cap by passed by a PIO is great!
Then tragedy strike when in the process of changing the output PIO, I shorted the A1 ch pin 27 of CS4360 to a -12V DC. The story is below for those who may want to laugh...Anyway, could I some how use Ch A2 in place of A1, or I must replace the CS4360KZz? I will try to switch the ch settling from stereo to 6 ch and see what happen. I am only interested to use this DVD player for 2 ch play back only. Hope some one could advise me...!
Also, what is the general opinion on the sound of CS4360?
Tks and best rgds

(The Russian PIO was very big, and the pin 27 end was shorted to the heat sink on top of the main IC chip, which I used -12 Volts to ground the heat sink. I know I should have applied the -12V by placing in serial a 10k to the -ve then a cap to ground!)

Don't think you can get a left or right 2 channel out from any of the other outputs....but, I could be wrong. Most DAC chips are very good....most opinions about them are not very valid....especially from modders like myself, who seem to want to push one over the other...very hard to A/B DAC chips....most any player with enough mods can sound quite incredible, as you know. The same Crystal DAC chip is in the Oppo players I mod and sounds wonderful modded. You really cannot change DAC chips in a unit, unless you have a different circuit board made and know exactly how to run it. Most any cheap player whether it has a Crystal, Burr-Brown, AKM, Analog Devices or Wolfson DAC can sound quite incredible with enough mods. Yes, the better DACs from all the above companies are generally better with the same level of mods.....that is the key...the same level of mods.....a very tweaked $3.00 DAC chip (like your 6 channel 4360) and output stage will sound better than any top of the line DAC chip with ordinary power supply and output stage. Happy tweaking!
In the CS 4360 pdf spec sheet, there is a section on Ch assignment instruction in CS4360 spec, 6.3.1, That is ATAPI ch mixing and mutin... I hv yet to understand it in term of circuit sense. Wonder how oculd i hard wired it so that it can be done...best rgds
That is sad if I hv to replace the CS4360... will give it a try to replace anyway, een if I have to buy the solder for Sur mount! Yes the sound is better then my Spny DVP9000 ES with transformer output from the Big DAC....!! Its really a lot simpler to get great sound this day!! I hv a Shinco DVD player with CS 4362 to mod next and then Toshiba 3990 which already sounded quite nice with simply tweaking the parts in the PS.... But wonder if it cud sound as good as the Philip!Best rgds
