I was wondering...I have a DEQ2496, wish it had more digital inputs, more digital outputs. SRC2496 has more of both. I've seen posts here about using the SRC ahead of the DEQ. I couldn't make up my mind...before, after? Or even if "after" worked. Then it dawned on me.. at $129/each, why not both? Sandwich the DEQ between SRC's. But in true cheapskate audio fashion, I ask: has anybody done this? Does it work? Anybody who has not done it--sound like a good, bad, ugly idea? Thanks
Follow Ups:
Be aware that the specs for jitter from the Behringer DEQ (and I suspect other Behringer products) is not very good, something like 2ns. I got the best results when using jitter reducers both before and after the my Behringer DEQ 2496 (I use Monarchy audio DIPs).
I haven't ever seen any reviews or measurements of any of the 2496 Behringers and the SRC and DCX use the latest Crystal Semi 4120 upsampling receiver chip that all the expensive Dacs use. The DEQ uses an AKM receiver though.
The jitter spec is in the users manual. So no I didn't check it but it looked bad enough and listening tests confirmed that the DIPs cleaned up the sound.
I use two SRCs but the second one is just to have a headphone amp after the eq. There is no draw back to using two as I make my own digital cables.
Thanks...so I guess I shouldn't worry!
I can't help you, but I am curious about what you are doing with a digital equalizer and a sample rate converter. You must be doing something very fancy.
Nothing fancy. I only have the DEQ at the moment. Using it to ameliorate room resonances with the parametric equalizer portion. Using the graphics equalizer as a good old tone control (following Tony Cordsman's advice in TAS a month or two ago re Fletcher-Munson curves)..The SRC I was thinking for jitter reduction, but other posters are saying no for that.
