has anyone compared the stock ack dack 1.2e to one with the ultra resolution upgrade?
if so what are your opinions on the differences?
thanks

Pure magic (Ack 2.0) when paired up with one of the Belt drive CEC transports. Applause Audio let me bring in the 2.0 and put it in his system composed of an Audiomat amplifier driving Equation speakers. I heard it driven by the TL-51XZ and it was pure synergy. Rob (the dealer) is a dealer for Mutine's Pascal Ravach and this was his reference setup. The designer (Chris Own) used an even pricier TL-1 to voice his creation until he no longer yearned vinyl. The transport matters but Dave Pogues experiments with Toshiba and Tascam are very positive...I'll have to get him to listen to a CEC doing the sterring.
...pairing a 1.2e with a CEC might be a longer term solution

I, like Dave went from a 1.2 to a 2.0 with the Teflon upgrade. I could never go back. Seems to me that the bass extension was dramatically improved, not more slam, but just simple extension. I don't have a ton of time these days to listen, and I have a bad feeling that these new caps aren't broken in yet. Some days are better than others-but this sound is still by far better than any I've had in my system barring analog. If you like vinyl, you'll probably like this unit. -Fish
I went from a 1.3 to a 2.0 with the ultra-rez (teflon cap) upgrade. No question about the improvement -- increased clarity and detail, better bass, other good stuff. The problem in comparing them is that the teflon caps take FOREVER to break in and the unit sounds fairly grim until they do. I sold the earlier unit well before the new one got over its break-in nasties.I'm currently running it off a Tascam CD-RW700 (CD recorder/player), which sounds pretty awful as a player but quite good as a transport. This combo is my preferred CD source, compared with my Sony XA777ES SACD/CD player. Curiously, it sounds better to me than using the Sony as a transport into the Ack dAck. The one area in which the Sony excels is in the bass. Despite the bass improvement from the 1.3 to the 2.0, bass is not the Ack dAck's strongest suit, IMHO.
