"or go all Pass, and get 2 aleph Js for mmg duty."For an absolute killer return on your hard earned buck for the MMGs, do this:
1) Replace the iron core inductors with equivalent air core jobbies. Bass will be tighter and smoother.
2) Since you have never blown the safety fuse, I'll have to believe that you are not a head banger. Do bypass that bugger. The mids and highs will be almost ribbonlike.
3) While you are in there, do assure that all crimps are tight. You might even consider soldering the wires to the loose crimps and even the crimps to the driver board. You'll know what I am refering to when you take that sock off of it. Do be carefull with taking it off.
4) Also, raising the speaker off the floor 4 inches or so by home made speaker stands improves the sound and they look much better as well.
By doing the above, about 80 bucks for parts max, you will have much better sound than bi amping these speakers through el cheapo sound degrading components. Also, do save a bit of cash by considering the 50 watt Class A Forte (I know where you are taking these speakers). For the 5 or 6 hundred bucks you can not beat what it will do for an already fine, rather low cost speaker. The money saved on two Aleph Js will buy one heck of a modded disc player and leave you some extra cash for music.

Hey Ozzie,I must say that this is very sound advice....since I have effectively done 1-4.
Take a look at my system and you will see some picts of 1. and a steroids version of 3 with the drivers wired directly to some WBTs.
But that is just it, My PC already out performs my old 2k trans/dac front end, and the PC is all ready for active crossover duty. IMHO cds are dying.
I currently have an anthem amp 1 to go with the pass, but that amp just never did it for me....so the next step is better amps, and then better Mags.
I must say that this is very sound advice....since I have effectively done 1-4.--- That looks like some pretty sweet workmanship. You obviously used the same stand design that I did. It makes them look far more expensive than they are. When you go fully active, someone here might be willing to buy those inductors. Gone with the power eating resistor as well.

--- Directly coupled to an sctive set up, these speakers will really rock. Do have a look at that Forte. While I haven't heard it on them, it sounds fine. + is fairly reasonable in cost.

--- One question, did you have the old setup with the current config of your speakers. Asking since the mods do make a big difference that may invalidate the comparison. I find CDs OK. My system is only disc based so if I can only find the music that I want on CD, I guess I am stuck with that.

--- If you ever sell the Pass, do look me up.

Maybe it wouldn't ave ben such a big deal had I not done the mods before.
Sorry Ozzy, but I don't really plan on selling the Pass, it is a keeper.
