I would throw the Rega Saturn into the mix.

Very highly rated player, pity it didn't do anything for me.
Even listened to it on A Naim pre & power amps with super dooper
fancy ass speakers.
their lack of bass will turn off a whole bunch of ppl. Although Saturn remedy that beyond 100% :D
Could it be that you get more treble then you are used to?If I test the player, I get 0 db at 50 Hz and - 1 dB at 18 kHz.
(Using the Lasertrak CD2000 test CD, and a Bruel & Kjaer Voltmeter 2426)50 Hz and 100 Hz is up 0.3 dB from 1 kHz, but that could be the test CD, that I do not know.
Interesting perspective. I think one of the Apollo's strengths is that it doesn't emphasize any one frequency range and is fairly well balanced. My biggest complaint with most cd recordings is that the bass is often over-emphasized. The Apollo puts things back into balance. But that's just my perspective for my system.
I agree in that my audition of the Apollo seems smooth and natural
throughout the range. I didn't feel a lack or emphasis at all, but a very relaxed and addictive presentation.
not quite the amount as the quality, ie definition, depth, imaging
There seems to be a wide range in the recording quality of bass frequencies and a player that can accurately project those frequencies brings out the best and worst of the recordings. Is there a cdp in the Apollo's price range that you think more accurately produces the low end frequencies? Or do you have to spend quite a bit more to get the higher quality of bass output?
No clue I only brought Apollo home so I can make a decision on Saturn.. LOLI was looking for CDP in the $2-3k range. Saturn fit the bill nicely.
OK, so I have the Apollo in my room now. Will report back in a day or so as to ow it stacks up on the Creek EVO. About the bass, I had to really crank down my M&K sub woofer when I hooked up the Creek. BOOMing bass .. .. .. .. Looks like this will be the first of some head to head comparisons. I'm glad I don't switch out cd players every year!!
