Any on care to comment on their experience with this unit? I am currently using an Adcom 600. Is the AA DPI Pro 32 valuable with the dac? thanks

. . . . is that a 10 year old Audio Alchemy DAC/DTI will last longer than a brand new DAC Ah, even though the Alchemy is older technology (and sounds different). I don't have any experience with the Zhaola or the other Chinese-Ebay DACs, but I will not be exploring anymore of these Chinese designed products until I see that they have been designed to completion, instead of a partial emulation of whatever happens to be popular. You usually get what you pay for, and for two hundred bucks the customer buys the job of quality control technician. It's a hell of a way to develop a product, but it works.
All those Chinese DACs seem to be built as the wind blows.....
Well theres a few things to consider. First off the AA DDE3.0 and Adcom gda600 were both well regarded budget dacs in there day. I dont think the DDE3.0 will be much of an upgrade, more like a step sideways. Second, the DTI pro32 should work well with any dac, since it will lower jitter. With all that being said, I think your wasting your money buying dacs this old. Digital has come a long way since he 90's when these dacs came out. Its gotten much better and less expensive. Like you I also owned the Adcom gda600, it was fed by a Marantz cd63se and AA DTI plus. I thought it sounded great until I heard some of the brand new dacs available now. Im now using a $200 dac connected to my PC, it sounds better than my old digital equipmemtn ever did and cost almost 10x less!!! So if your looking to upgrade your Adcom gda600, id look at some of the new entry level dacs available now. I think youll be surprised how good the sound. As for the DTI pro32, it will most likely make any dac sound better since it will lower the jitter, but it too is quite old and outdated by now. There are newer anti-jitter boxes that would proably do a better job. Heres a few from most expensive to the least that you may want to check out. Perpetual Tech P1A, Monarchy DIP 24/96, and Behringer src2496.
Thanks so much for your thoughts. I almost bought a Zhaolu this week but someone beat me to it. I also have a Lite Dac AH which I like very much. I have two systems and the Adcom is in the other. Maybe I should try the one you did instead of spending $600 for the AA pair.
Thanks again. Any experience with Scott Nixon machines?
Howard
Sorry havent tried the Scott Nixon dacs. To be honest $600 for the AA stuff seems very high? The Perpetual Tech p1a/p3 combos arent selling for much more than that on Agon these days. I would check out the Zhaolu, I dont think it can be touched for $200. If your looking to lower jitter check out the Behringer SRC2496, its been on sale recently for $100. Good luck
Sorry all. I forgot the first rule. Try Search first. Still open to any comments but I did find a lot of discussion in the archives. thanks.
