I find them to be in stock everwhere I usually see them. No worries for now.
Follow Ups:
LOL... No I'm worried that as soon as I buy one, the new and improved model will be introduced :)There always seems to be a few on the Audiogon, I'll probably go the used route anyway.
I just bought one used on the gon. By the time my deal was made, there were three others--all sold now I think. Look close at what they offer with it--one deal had the mic and a mic cable, both of which you need and neither of which comes with the unit. Also, as Im sure you've seen, these can be had new for $299 (at guitar center and elsewhere) and if you're willing to take an 'ebay chance' Ive seen new ones there for $240. Sometime on the gon sellers put the list price (which is what it says I guess) with no regard to the actual selling price of the item new. No problem with that, but then of course they make their cut 'based' on the list price. Anyway, Im happy with mine so far (they ARE complicated). And Im amazed at what you get for the price. As many people have remarked, the notion that the DEQ is cheaper than a whole lot of interconnects says something about the state of the hobby. Good luck!
As usual, I was a dollar short and a day late, :) One of the ones just recently sold on the gon was in Charlotte, NC, I live in Va Beach Va., so shipping would of been minimum.Years ago, I bought the 8024 Ultracurve, right before the 2496 was released. (That's why the paranoid attitude) Good news is I already have the ECM8000 mic and cabling, which I now have been using with an M-Audio Mobilepre and the Room EQ Wizard program.
I plan on using this unit as a digital EQ and temporary DAC, for my Slim Devices Squeezebox
It works quite well with the squeezebox as a dac actually, I listened to a ton of 128k and higher bitrate internet radio with that combo and had a ton of fun - there was a pretty good synergy there considering the ultra low prices of both. Never really played CD's through it much though, as I had the Burwen Bobcat USB dac not long after, and used the built in EQ of itunes/windows media player with it...
Yes, we've talked about this before. I've had my SB3 for almost a year now, and also used it more for internet radio. I had started transferring my CDs to flac via EAC, but ran into problems with some cds. I thinking it might have been the drive I was using, but probably just operator error. Kinda dropped the ball, switched gears and concentrated on building up my HT speaker system. This last Christmas, Santa brought me an Ipod Nano. So I decided to give it a go again, this time with itunes and Apple Lossless. Both the exporting and labeling seemed to go so much easier, sound quality (from just memory, no a/b tests)) appears to be just as good.
Now that all my favorite discs are on HD, I even ordered a new DVD burner (the new external Plextor) and a 250 gig external HD, for redundant backup.
So on to the digital upgrades!
