The Wavelength Crimson's DAC is battery operated. The tubes have a separate power supply.Empirical Audio's Spoiler can be battery operated. Also, the Apogee Mini DAC.
Follow Ups:
Thanks to all for the great set of DAC recommendations. My main issue is using usb vs a dedicated audio line. References on the net state usb is not the best for audio use. the ibook does not have a coaxial or optical output, however, my mac book pro according to the apple website has a "Combined optical digital audio output/headphone out (minijack)". I'm not sure if this would mean that I can use the optical option which would greatly expand my choices. anyone with more information?
Thanks
VJ
VJ,I have a new MacBook Pro. The best use of the MPB would be either a USB Dac or USB output to a DAC ala Empirical Audio.
I personally don't agree with your "sources" concerning USB audio.
Steve,
The follow up got messed up. Here is the link
VJ,E-mail Gordon Rankin or Steve Nugent. See what they have to say.
Better than that, see what other inmates have to say on AA at PC Audio. My experience differs from JA.
Thanks mate!!!
