The hold DVD player I was using to play both DVDs and CDs just died on me before I got ready to buy the CD player I have been waiting for for a while. So now I have to choose : shall I buy a "good" dvd player to listen to music, or a cheap one until I find the means to pay for a CD player?
In either cases, I think the cd player would never cost me more than 500 or 600$.I came across good reviews abou Cambridge Audio 540d dvd player and wonder... I have an opportunity to get one for 300 can$ (used of course).
It would play through an AMC 3025a int. amp and energy XL16 speakers.
Follow Ups:
It's a nice sounding unit and quite reliable as far as DVD players go. That said, their CD players sound better. They also have a new unit out called the DVD89 which is not much more than that new and it sounds very nice for the money. The video is very good also. I would not buy a used DVD player of any type, period. Get a warranty.

The 540D is a very good piece, but the DVD89 is even better in my opinion and it won't cost you too terribly much more to get a new DVD89 over the used 540D. The DVD89 also has a lot more options.
So here it is :I went to a local store and compared Nad dvd player and cd player (the first retailed for 500cad and the second for 450cad). It is now clear to me that you can pay less and have better sound with a cd player.
Hence I then went to FuturShop and bought a (very) cheap Toshiba dvd player -- which puts me on the market for a fair quality cd player.
