I have a chance of buying one of these for a really good price but it would be unheard.
I have read good things about the player and I am tempted.
Would it be a significant upgrade from my Rega Saturn?
I love the things the Saturn does with Acoustic instruments and voices. I listen mainly to Instrumental, folk, jazz, female vocal. It would go into a system of Audio Research LS 15, Conrad Johnson Prem 11A and Martin Logan Aerius i.
I have heard that this CDP is good with direct I/C's I have that option as far as the Pre Amp but it is phono only to the C/J, would this make a difference and is it a consideration?Any thoughts appreciated.

Well I think I have the best of both worlds. The seller is going to let me have the Ayre on loan for a week and is also going to lend me a balanced i/c.
I should have it for the weekend!
Thanks everyone for your posts and thoughts. I will report back.
Hello Tel,
I would sort of agree with the general consensus... if you like what the Saturn does then stick with it, I would only contemplate a change if you were dissatisfied.
I have an Ayre CX7 (not Evolution) and have been very happy with it. I changed from a Teac T1 transport and MF X Dac V3 with X PSU and it was a considerable improvement on what I had which is why I made the move.
Can you not get to hear it first. If you are in Brighton... you could talk to Dave at Heatherdale Audio in Worthing...Have fun anyway,
I have tried both extensively. Keep the Saturn. It is definitely a much much better player than the Ayre despits its lack of XLR outputs. If you are still keen on the Ayre, get it without selling the Saturn.
Compare both at home and get rid of the one you don't like. If you don't mind losing a bit of money just to satisfy your curiosity.
I have just seen the thread further down, sorry for the repetition but my head was in a bit of a whirl!
The comment about the Saturn being a better player worries me, not because I don't rate the Saturn, I own one!
Maybe I am being swayed on cost a bit here.
In the UK the Ayre is 50% more than the Rega Saturn and I guess I am expecting something substantial in performance upgrade for that.
The Ayre also has balanced outputs which the Rega doesn't, another thing which apparantly works well with my Pre-Amp.
If you're as happy with the Rega as you seem to be, then why bother switching? I am buying the Ayre only because I don't know better either and I need a player. If I already had a satisfactory CD player I would stay put, but I don't. You never know for sure about these opinions. They're just one person. I went by a large concensus of opinion. Still this was the first I ever heard a Rega compared with really top end players. It could be the best one at a bargain.
I have the Ayre unit and enjoy it. Nothing bad to say about it.However, if a person is fence-sitting on a purchase of this kind, it's usually for good reasons.
There's a little left brain-right brain conflict going on. Satisfaction with what one has really makes it hard to justify a change.
