Hi guys,I just got a brand new Accuphase DP-57 CD player to try at home, and I was wondering how much time it's necessary to fully break-in the unit.
By now, with only about 22 hours on it, I really love his main sound signature. It sounds so transparent, detailed and balanced at all the sonic spectrum. Very weighty and focussed too, just the contrary to my Audio Aero Prima the one has a much more diffuse sound in comparison. The problem is that by now the DP-57 sounds a bit hard and fatiguing to my ears, slightly agressive. So much as I like it right now, I have to admit that I would not be able to live with it if it's not going to relax with the time. Can I count with that?.
I really need to ask you this because I have to decide during the next 2 days if I'm going to buy it or not. Thanks in advance.
Follow Ups:
Yes, I have finally bought the DP-57. I have a CD sampler on it with the Accuphase on "repeat all" mode playing 24 hours per day for the breaking-in.Anyways, I have said to the Accuphase distributor who has sold me the unit to call me if he receives or can get some used 75V.
Many thanks to all for your comments and advices, it was really of great help.
" Anyways, I have said to the Accuphase distributor who has sold me the unit to call me if he receives or can get some used 75V."Pep, make sure the 75V still has available optical pick-up spare parts before you commit. Accuphase are not using Sony mechanisms anymore and the DP-75v is almost 10 years old as a model.

A better way for burning in the player is to get the XLO/Reference Recording CD and play track 9 on repeat for like 3 hours on a daily basis, let it cool down for an hour then keep playing regular music. You can keep the player 'ON' 24/7 but you need to let it rest from actually playing music for a few hours on a daily basis so that you don't over stress the mechanism by having it running 24/7..
Enjoy..:)

I bought this player about a year and a half ago and I have to say it is a fantastic player. Took some time to break in, but man, what an improvement over the still great Rega Jupiter I used to own. I use it with the Accuphase E-213 (w/AD-10) and a pair of Sonus Faber Signums. By the way, changing to balanced cables was a further improvement. Love the combo.
Hello Pep! I own DP65. It is an older model with older mmb type dac inside. It is not and has never been harsh and/or fatiguing. Yes it takes an awful lot of time to break in any Accuphase product. My p7000 poweramp had to run more than 400 hours and I am still hearing improvements week after week. The same with my c275v preamp. In fact, if you look carefully into the archives you will probably find posts that state that Accuphase gear doesn't have a break-in period at all! That's because the changes come slightly at first. I recommend the following method: turn on the player and put a cd on a loop, let it play 10-15 hours, then let the cdp rest, but do not switch off. Turn off for a day then repeat the loop-play. Let it on 24 hours. Switch off and let it cool. This method gives jumping results quickly, otherwise prepare to wait. Interesting, my friend bought dp67 and it also was edgy first two months. It can be possibly explained by different type of DAC chips that Accuphase use now. Anyway Accuphas gear loves to be turned on all the time.
Serge.
P.S. Get the player, you won't be disappointed.
Hi Pep,Be VERY patient with the DP-57!! Mine took almost 400 hours to mature but will not sound aggressive after the 200 hour mark as I can recall.
Enjoy..:)

The following review indicates that the DP-57 might need as many as five weeks continuous operation to reach its full potential. Could be -- every review I've read of Accuphase's digital gear describes anything but hard and aggressive sound.Let us know what you decide. Accuphase tops my wishlist these days, so I'm always curious to hear what people have to say -- good or bad.
Cheers.

Well, since the english is not my first language I am not sure if "hard and agressive" would be the more ideal words to describe what I'm feeling with the DP-57. It's true that the Accuphase CDP reviews never talk about agressive and hard sound. However, it seems I'm not the only one experimenting this kind of sound during the first breaking-in days of an Accuphase CDP. Take a look at this thread :http://db.audioasylum.com/cgi/m.mpl?forum=digital&n=106739&highlight=audio+aero+DP-75V&r=&session=
Giantfeet says his recently purchased Accuphase DP-75V leads to listener fatigue after a while. Of course, he was used, like me, to the tubey, highly warm and very relaxed sound of an Audio Aero CDP. But it seems at the end he sold the Audio Aero and decided to keep the Accuphase.
I don't question at all what you're hearing now. I mean that once break in is complete that I've never heard Accuphase described as fatiguing. I mean that as encouragement to give it a few weeks.Good luck!

Thanks, I hope that to be truth. I really love all what this CDP is doing except for that bit of harshness.Let's see if some other person posts his opinions.
...unless specific measures are implemented to tame it...HF rolloff, nonoversampling with tube output stage, etc.
fatiguing in digital just means accurate, basically.

HowdyThen I heard the Linn CD12 and later other high end players. Now I have the EMM Labs DAC6e. None of these use any of the ameliorations you talk about. My hypothesis is that many bad implementations of the anti imaging reconstruction filter cause the symptoms that we all hate and that high freq filtering, etc. are band-aids. The real solution is a well implemented high oversampling filter.
My 55V also sounded overly agressive and punchy in its early days. I just put in on repeat for about 12 hours every day for about a week and left in on forever. After a while, things settle down and there was just simply more music thereafter.BTW, I just bought a C2400/A60 pre-power combo and they are already sounding great. However, I also hear its sound changing everyday.
hello
what is the going price range for a used dp57
Thanks
Frank
