Do you guys know what are some of the better sounding older Philips players? Thanks
Follow Ups:
The CD 50 wasn't high end but might be quite decent.
Philips made some really good transports and I understand that some pretty knowledgeable people still search out a DAC that Philips was using around the late 80s when the CD 50 was made as they believe it was one of the best DACs ever made.
I'm one of those who got burnt on the SACD1000 (I also had two other Philips SACD players last less than a year), but yours is a redbook player exclusively and therefore a very different proposition. If it has a quality transport it'll be no surprise.
What model number?
cd50
from Philips. Not only did my SACD-1000 fail (it works fine now after Alex Paychev replaced the no longer available chips) BUT, I also had a Philips CDR recorder (CDR-795) that lasted just over a year. Still plays but won't record properly. Their customner "service" responsiveness was atrocious.

All im talking about is cd 50,not the sacd 1000 or whatever it was.I could care less about the sacd 1000
There's a pretty general concensus of opinion in here that Philips stuff is to be avoided. My experience(s) bear this out. That's all!

I could be wrong but werent some of the early players decent?
This is due to the mess they had with their SACD 1000 player.
There was practically a 100% failure rate. The big problem was that customer support was unbelievably horrid. It was a real disaster.
Bottom line, I would never support Philips knowingly. They treated many of us like dirt and don't deserve our hard earned dollars. Sorry if I didn't answer your question, or perhaps I did.If interested just do a search in the Hi-Rez Asylum under Philips SACD1000 or clink on the link below.
Philips used to make great CD players.....20 years ago.
My Philips-based Magnavox CDB460 has been trouble free & great-sounding since I bought it.....March 1988.
All the giants of audio in the 50's, 60's, & 70's; are now gone or total jokes (how could Fisher have sunk SO low??).
True, Marantz has made a respectable come back.
But the others?

My still working 1981 Denon DRA-600 receiver, is solid metal & simple to operate.
But the new Denon A/V receivers?
Plastic, 165 buttons, and you need a BS in EE to operate it.
This is progress??

Once i get the remote,i want to try it with the variable outputs, right now it sounds fine, and works fine.
