Keep your Jolida and get it modded. How many Cary 308T's do you see up for sale anyway? Someone mentioned a modded Sony. Funny, if a modded "off-the-shelf" player becomes "da bomb" , what you think is more likely when an "audiophile" player is modded?

I have thought about getting it modded but also have heard they sound too clinical or analytical when this is done. The stock unit with NOS tubes does not take away from its original design. What do you think?
Isn't that what you hope to achieve by upgrading? The Cary will sound more analytical, for example.Second, the idea modded=too clinical imo is a myth (created by people who don't have them, think "bad apple" analogy). If anything, modding will take AWAY the harshness associated with the cheap stock caps, resisters, diodes, etc... Think about it, replacing the awful, harsh, cheap, stock "blue" square caps people wouldn't want for free, in favor of v-caps or jensens or the like - would this add or take away the harshness? It would probably smooth out the harshness and add resolution at the same time, much like how a NOS tube works when replacing stock tubes.
I regrettably sold my Jolida, bought much more expensive gear, and haven't enjoyed music since. Take a look at response audio...I came across their site and like their philosophy on Jolida mods.
> I came across their site and like their philosophy on Jolida mods <I thought Response Audio was against modding the JD100? Doesn't that contradict what you said earlier in your post?
I didn't say Response Audio was against modding. I meant modding can take away from its original design specs if not done right making a player sound too analytical or clinical.
I wasn't directing that at you.Actually Response Audio WAS indeed against modding the Jolida player for quite some time. But checking their website shows that they are now offering two levels of mods. I am in agreement with you that modding a piece of electronics for the sake of doing it can be a bad idea sometimes. I only heard the stock JD100, so I can't say how much better or worse any of the mods are for that player. I can with utmost certainy say my TRL modded player spanks it.
Oh ok. I never heard they were against it but I guess it comes down to the almighty dollar ;)
