There have been a few problems like this, in the neighborhood of 2% of units. Arcam has sold about 20,000 CD73 so that means about 400 failures of this type. I work for the USA Arcam importer, Audiophile Systems LTD. The problem is in one of 3 areas, so we typically fix all 3 - flexfoil between main board and transport, transport, and display board. Replacing all 3 takes no more than about 20 minutes with the parts in hand, but service may always be delayed by how busy the service center is and if parts are temporarily unavailable. Please see your dealer and have him arrange repair at one of authorized service centers. Sorry about the hassle, but a certain percentage, typically near 5% on high end audio, of everything electro-mechanical has problems.

Thanks for the valuable information. May I ask you this: the unit seems to work if I simply leave it on all the time. How does this relate to the faulty parts you have described?

Can't answer for sure, but sounds like the display board is the main culprit.
Yes, there is a known issue with both the 192 and cd73 display boards. Arcam has generously allowed me to replace the unit. Thanks.
