I am interested in bidding on a Musical Fidelity A308 CD player. The Musical Fidelity web site lists this as an A308CR CD player. I've searched the internet and found pictures where the letters "CR" appear on the face plate and other pictures where it does not. Does anyone know the difference in these players or why some players are labeled A308 while others are labeled A308CR? In fact, does anyone know what CR stands for?
Follow Ups:
I own the 308cr, as well as the Sim Audio Moon Eclipse and the Audiomeca Obsession. I have owned the Rotel AE991 and have used the newer A5 CDP in my system for a while. The 308 is my favorite player and works better than the others in my system. If you can find a good deal on one I would consider it. However, the pricing on this unit is odd. The 308cr was available some time ago brand new for $1800 or so, but people on Audiogon often try to sell used units for this price and new ones for more than 2000-2200 or more. Even if it was near mint, I wouldn't pay more than about $1200-$1300.
I had a MF A308 CR CD player for a while and thought it was OK. I think there are others out there in the same price range that are noticably better in my system. See my review of the MF A5 CD player in the review section for comments that include some comparisons I have done with other players. Of course, if you can get a really good deal, why not. You usually get what you pay for, but every once in a while you can get a great deal.http://www.audioasylum.com/cgi/m.pl?forum=digital&n=99126&review=1
hi,test
hi
They ought all to be CR. See their website under products/archived products. Can you give a link to a picture where "CR" is left out on the front plate?
Two choke transformers are in the upper pic at the left front and right.
You are correct. I went back to the sites I researched (I was researching both the A308CR pre amp and the A308CR CD player. It turns out the pictures were of the A308 integrated amp, which does not have the CR designation.
