I'm considering the addition of the TACT RCS 2.0 DD to my current rig (see below). I really like my transport (Meridian 500) and DAC (EVS Millennium DAC 2) , and would thus only be interested in/need the DD version of the 2.0. Since I won't use any of the preamp functions (volume) or A/D or D/A functions, and I don;t use a subwoofer, is the 2.0 as good as the 2.2x in its sheer RCS ability? Also, I've heard a lot of positive press about the TACT, but nothing really about whether they're any good with electrostats in general (and Quads in particular). My entire system is geared towards extreme transparency, and while I want to tame some of the nasty room effects (excessive glare on female vocals, some boominess in the bass), I don't want to lose any of that lovely detail, air and imaging that I currently enjoy.
Any feedback on whether the TACT is any good withg ESLs and whether the RCS 2.0 DD version will be as good as the newer ones (given my specific needs noted above) will be greatly appreciated.
My system is:
Meridian 500 Transport
Mapleshade ultrathin digital interconnect
EVS Millennium DAC 2
Mapleshade Excalibur Mk II ribbon interconnects
EVS Ultimate attenuators (volume controls)
Atma-sphere Mk11.2+ OTL monoblock amplifiers
Mapleshade golden double helix speaker cable
Quad ESL 63s speakers

It will do fine so long as you understand that TacT RCS is not a plug-n-play addition. You have to be willing to spend time to tweak your target curve. Also you are limited to 9db of correction which is part of the reason RCS is not a plug-n-play solution. If you buy used, make certain your purchase includes the software and rs-232 cable. There is a yahoo group for TacT which is the best place for support.
I'm okay with the weeks (and perhaps months) of tinkering that might be required, as well as with the 9db limitation. I'm considering a purchase directly from Tact (they sell a refurbished 2.0 on their webshop with all the accessories for $1,490 - presumably this includes the software - BTW, what's an rs-232 cable?). I have no doubt that the Tact works quite well in most environments, but I really have two specific queries:1. Does DSP such as that provided by the Tact RCS work well (at all) with dipolar speakers like electrostats, or does the backwave compromise the Tact's abilities
2. Since I'll only be using the unit in the digital domain (D/D version only) and use no subwoofer, is the 2.0 as good as the 2.0S or 2.2X for my purposes?
i don't have dipoles but i imagine that so long as both speakers are equal distance from the wall it won't matter much.i have RCS 2.0. it works fine for me. 2.0s provides for smoother granularity in correction curves. 2.2x is for systems with subs.
rs-232 cable is required to connect the RCS to your computer.
the yahoo tactaudio usergroup is the best place for the answers you seek.
Thanks. I would have thought the Tact 2.0S introduced further refinements in transparency etc. (other than improved granularity in setting response curves). At any rate I'll check out the Yahoo usergroup.
