I was once recruited by Positive Feedback magazine to write reviews, articles, etc. I quit early because there was nothing in it for me, no benefits at all. Some of the others that like to write nonsense there seem to do so because of their ego. That's the only way I can figure it. I guess my ego isn't big enough. I will post something casually on the net, however. It's then just a way to while away some time or get some tips from others, or answer questions others have about what I did, or whatever. At least it's not driven by a need for being famous. I reduced my profile by eliminating my full name from my moniker to help me be less noticed, where people at work read what I write sometimes, or that sort of thing.

Hello Kurt...to my surprise you wrote:"Some of the others that like to write nonsense there [Positive Feedback Online] seem to do so because of their ego."
I don't think so.
"I quit early because there was nothing in it for me, no benefits at all."
This is inaccurate. As in "I quit" vs. "I was asked to leave."
"I guess my ego isn't big enough."
And this is a bit of wishful thinking, since the circumstances of your departure from Positive Feedback had nothing to do with the relative size of your ego, but rather with your interesting notions as to the prerogatives of an audio reviewer. You should remember quite well, I think.
You're certainly welcome to your opinion about why or why not a reviewer pursues his or her passion. But it is less than forthcoming of you to enter this thread based upon your time with our journal, and then imply what you do about the character of Positive Feedback/Positive Feedback Online, the people who contribute to it, and the nature of your departure from the magazine, these many years ago.
I would have ignored your comments apart from the fact that they are very misleading to all of us here at Audio Asylum, and create an aura of authority on this topic that I do not believe they deserve.

Really? I was actually asked to leave? I never got the notice, sorry. I simply never sent in any more material. I thought I sent you the notice I wasn't going to send in anything else. Wow, my memory may be deceiving me, but I was pretty sure I wasn't "fired" from this voluntary work.

It's the honest truth that I have no idea what you're talking about. I think you have me confused with someone else. Could you explain to me what I said about the prerogatives of an audio reviewer that got me "fired"? This was how long ago? About 16 years or so? I can't remember much that far back, and I think you can't either.
Kurt
Do you have a record of any pertinent emails? I want to see them. I think you're imagining stuff that doesn't even exist, or are totally confused on the matter. Maybe there was some disgruntled reviewer there that you remember and since I sounded like him here, you thought I was him. By the way, my full name is Kurt Strain. Does that help you?My opinion about Positive Feedback and its voluntary contribution system is still a valid one in my eyes. If it's a non-paying job with no rewards, and I NEVER asked for any rewards, then it must be for some self-esteem issues, I guess. The monthly turn-around of "conversation" is too slow to interest me in contributing to that. The internet conversations are far better for that type of thing. That's my honest opinion about that.
