MIT 350 reference, or 350 SG EVO if you can stretch another $100 or so....
Though I mostly use Valhalla these days there are times I still plug in my Omega Mikro Ebony Twin-Tube IC's The OM cables were the only cable of pure copper construction that I felt ever really let all the detail through while still retaining that "copper" midrange that is so captivating. Even if you can't find the Ebony used right away, I still had very good luck...and a pair in the basement that I keep around of the older and much cheaper single tube versison (not for sale please)Another good copper cable was the Marigo Labs cable. Their Apparition digital cable is among one of the best I have ever heard...though I still prefer my Ebony that is in the main rig right now, the Marigo was a VERY good performer that many may mistake for silver due to the high level of detail resolution and top end shimmer. They do some cool things soundstage wise too. YMMV
I've been using Joe Mazzaglia's custom built Be/Cu ICs and speaker cables. They sound better than any pure silver or copper in my system. And you'll notice that the famed Oyaide has now started using Be/Cu too.
Joe can be reached at auricleaudiodesign@hotmail.com
What do you mean it sounds better? Better dynamic, better bas, better treble, better resolution, better tone, better realism, better music? What is better? Everything?
Do a search for "Auricle" under my moniker "bartc" and you'll find all my previous descriptions.
They may not be quite as detailed as my reference Pure Note "Paragon Enhanced", but they are by far the smoothest, full-bodied, and most well-organized (in terms of definition and image specificity)copper cable I have ever heard. In fact, they bested a couple of well-regarded silver cables I had on hand to compare at the time. The Varial is marginally better than the Gede. The Gede is a real bargain in high-end cables.
Since this is all about synergy and system balance, YMMV of course...
Me, I'm just a lawnmower, you can tell me by the way I walk....

The Varials are Silver! and the Luminous Audio Monarch II's smoked the Gede's in my system. The Gede's seem to collapse the sound stage. By the way I am not dissing Zu, my Ht system is completely wired with Zu! Also my Seas Thors and their external x-overs are internally wire with Zu Wax.
.
I stand corrected.
That said, I had the total opposite experience than you in my system.
After break-in, each and every Zu Cable I have ever tried has had the uncanny ability of throwing a very broad soundstage. In depth, they are bested by the Pure Notes, but it is far from "collapsed".I guess it's all about synergies...

Too subjective and system dependent but my vote goes for the OTA with appropriate connectors.
A warm, detailed interconnect that gives me all the musical information!Try before you buy...
Best...
Great tone and true to the music. 6/9s single crystal copper implemented with a clean, transparent, just a tad warm of neutral sound. Of course, its all subjective and room/system dependent (in my experience). The Luminous bettered all the Cardas cables I tried in my system (made the Cardas sound dry in comparison). Of course, I've now replaced the Luminous with the Mac (Myaudiocables) Palladium, but you only asked about copper so I won't go there. Good luck on the search and let us know what you choose and how it works out.
MAC cables sound good enough to take the place of Luminous Synchestra References? Man. That's hard to believe. I run TG Audio speaker cables and jumpers, which are basically Luminous cables reworked, and after searching high and low going through I don't know how many sets of cables I swore that I'd never do better than those. Of course, they aren't as pretty as Luminous's finished products, but, IMO, they are simply amazing for all they do and don't do at the same time. As in stunning.I'm in the market for a new pair of IC's for a headphone rig I am building. I have all but made up my mind to go with Luminous...but those MAC's aren't all that expensive...can you give any more of a description as to the sound of the MAC's? The thing I prize about my TG Audio cables is their ability to deliver killer detail without revealing themselves in the process. They are able to deliver a complete and accurate sonic description of the music while remaining absolutely neutral -- like they are not even there, and like they are adding nothing to the sound. It's hard to describe, actually. But these cables do what I am struggling to describe better than, and unlike, any other cable I have tried. It's all there, but the cable is not, if that makes any sense. Other cables I have tried will add slight colorations to the sonic signature, maybe a tinge of this or that, or drop a frequency, or highlight another. Not the TG's -- it's all of the music, no more, no less. In fact, it is not hard to imagine scenarios where some people might actually be disappointed in the TG's because they aren't doing something more .
Now, maybe that's not how you view the Luminous cables...and maybe the TG's are different from the Luminous cables in so much of a way that my description fails to meet your experience and I have made no sense to you whatsoever. But if I do make sense, can you try to explain why you now favor the MAC's?
I am sure this is well more than you bargained for, but I'd really appreciate it.
I got lost from following the asylum for a few days and, to be honest, forgot about this thread. Just saw your question and sent you an email in response. Sorry I didn't see your post sooner.
The best I have found.
A few recommendations based on my experience are the Virtual Dynamics Master or Nite series, CRL/FIM Silver (just in name, cable is copper), and Purist Audio Design Venustas. These cables are thicker in diameter and not as flexible as other cables. If you desire something more flexible the Oritek X-2 is worth seeking out.
...........best sub $1k IC I have heard to date :-)B sure to get the 72VDC DBS battery pack upgrade.
JMHO of course,
