I went to my local hifi guy Van L Speakerworks, John is an awesome guy great speaker builder with patented drivers that he manufactures himself. Anyway, I notice that he was using the Eichman eXpress 6 attached to his monitors Cary audio tube/solid state cd player and a jolida 202. This is a man that LOVE's Siltech cables and have sold hundreds of them, some costing up to 30k. Anyway, John has been in the business far longer that I have been alive, however, he made an interesting comment about the cables mention above. He told me that he has owned, auditioned, sold many brands, some inexpensive some very expensive and that for the money and sound that these speaker cables were capable of competing with far more expensive cables.I have to admit that I was curious about the cables that he was using, so I asked. Does anybody have a different opinion on these cables or any other Eichman products? I know of many that use Eichman connectors dont know of any that use the speaker cables, IC's, PC. Interesting stuff that is friendly on the wallet without costing you an arm and a leg with a smile :)
Follow Ups:
FWIW, I found the 6 speaker cables to be a forward-sounding cable...a lot of punch and drive, but not high on micro-detail. So, I'm not surprised it would potentially sound good on the Cary...Also, very stiff cable jacket that is tough to work with...
The ic's are pretty good...again, not huge on micro-detail...I thought they were veiled in comparision to the Siltech...which provided a lot more information without being harsh/shrill. They use small AWG solid core copper...best thing about the Eichmann ic's, in my experience, are the bullet plugs.
I've had a 2 metre Eichmann i/c between pre and power for maybe 3 or 4 years and really liked it until I decided to match the cable with the one I had from CDP to pre and then I thought the replacement was better.
That of course is between my specific components and as ever your mileage may vary.
I am now very fond of my Silverlink hand made pure silver i'cs.
These are made here in Australia and I think they are very very good value especially as they are specifically warranted that if you find any better cable within 12 months regardless of price, you will get your money back. My 2 metre was $320Au which is about $260US, a 1 metre is, if I remember, $220Au which is around $175US. Extremely good value from the results in my system.
Cables are cheap to mail so you might care to think about them.
They are available (and made specially for...) Osborn Loudspeakers and the site iswww.osbornloudspeakers.com.au
I have found them to have a deeper bass and a more resolved sound than the Eichmann, but this sort of thing can be very component specific.
IMo the star of the eXpress 6 line is the speaker cables. It'll go head to head with some very expensive competition and often end up "different not better or worse."The power cable is very good also. Neither the speaker cable or power cord will give you extra lush, warm colorations if you are into this kind of thing.
IC's are pretty good for the price, but not same league as the speaker cable IMO.
... seems highly rated here as well.
