let me pose a question. if you have five identical lengths of the same cable but terminate them with different connectors, say generic good quality rca's, vampire, cardas, wbt, and bullet plugs, will there be a noticable improvement(difference) in sound to justify the various levels of increase in price?
Follow Ups:
Potentially Yes. According to IEEE standards audio interconnects should have 50 ohm impedance. While 50 impedance coax wire is available 50 ohm impedance RCA connectors are difficult to find. Using wrong impedance RCA connectors will change the overall impedance of the interconnect. Mismatched impedance of the interconnect will cause signal reflection that can affect audio quality. At least that's the theory. Whether one can discern the difference is another story.
Many folks have found that a connector choice is just as important as the cable itself, and in many cases the selection of a particular connector can make or break the performance of a particular cable (and furthermore when placed within a particular system, as well). If it were not true, folks would not overspend on connectors that don't deliver the audible goods, since many DIY and commercial builders take note of direct comparisons rather than blindly buy a "prestigious" product for vanity's sake...
