In Reply to: Does BFA plug fit tightly into binding post or receiver? posted by michaelv20850 on April 9, 2007 at 17:01:50:
IME, the BFA design is much better mechanically and sonically than a leaf type banana. The design is essentially a one piece, split hollow pin connector with a slight splay at the split in order to create a snug fit. A leaf type banana plug might be fine to use with laboratory and other test equipment, but for audio use the BFA plug is the way to go when spades are not selected as an option, IMO. I suggest direct gold plated or direct silver plated (a nonreflective finish -- not shiny) beryllium copper BFA plugs such as the AudioQuest CF-BFA connectors.

Would you mind explaining a bit? Sorry that i'm new to this. I thought any plug with gold plated would do (i see many plug is shining gold).
Is this the one you're talking about? http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/speaker-con-aq.html#bfaAny other brands you suggest besides Audio Quest? such as Ultralink, or this http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-AV54000-Pureav-Banana-Plugs/dp/B0007MXBVQ/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/002-5794558-5411251?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1176217868&sr=1-2
thanks
I can recommend the AudioQuest CF-BFA since I use the connector in a second system, and think highly of it.As mentioned on the ramelectronics.net web page, AudioQuest BFA connectors feature direct gold or silver plating without the use of an intermediate layer of nickel a.k.a. a nickel substrate. A nickel substrate may allow a connector's gold plated finish to shine like jewelry, however it is considered by many folks to degrade performance. As the web page mentions:
-snip-
"...this means the high quality copper base material is plated directly with gold or silver to prevent the copper from oxidizing, with no intermediate layer of nickel underneath which would otherwise compromise performance."
-snip-
The AudioQuest CF-BFA is a solderless, crimpless design that features two set screws per connector for termination. A set screw connector such as this is not only very easy to terminate a cable with, it also performs very well and allows the connector to be reusable, which is also a very good thing for DIY cable guys :-)
Thanks, Dusters.
Placed order a few pairs. The outer jacket looks funny , by the way..:)
