Are the D-102 III cables in this picture terminated with VDH RCA's from the factory? I've read about counterfeits, just checking before I buy...Marty
Follow Ups:
No they use a tifany type connector ....you can buy the cable by the spool then make your own ic's
I've heard and read too many stories about fake VDH, especially the D102 MkIII. I'd personally suggest to only get factory terminated cables, preferably with the VDH box. I've also heard that non-factory terminated cables are not as good due to the delicate nature of their carbon-based materials.
If done correctly the termination is easy ....the carbon fibre doesn't carry the signal as far as I can see from their web site. So if you strip this back from the solder area this should not be a problem....Having had chance to listen to a set ....inital impressions are rather good, but with the caveat they do something nasty to the vocals almost like a distortion on the trailing edge ....once heard you...[I] could not live with these. This is not the first time I've heard this effect on van de hul cables using carbon fibre...I must assume that this is the cause. Shame really as they do everything else rather well.
