Hi Inmates,Is anyone familiar with this company? There is a issue involving improper use of trademarks in a foreign country. We have found out that King Snake, along with KK and others, are targeted and I would like to let them know.
TIA
Follow Ups:
Mr. Kimber,The two closest things I saw to your inquiry:
1. A Chinese retail company offering "King Snake" brand HDMI cables:
http://bbs.hifi168.com/Bbs/article.asp?ntypeid=55&titleid=97610
- if you scroll down to the photos of these cables and look carefully, the connectors seem to be labelled “MADE IN USA” -though I could be wrong. Imagine publishing advertising photos with those ropey, bent-up boxes.
2. "Kingsnake" tube guitar amplifier- made by "Reverend":
http://www.record-producer.com/learn.cfm?a=1916
I also saw in my travels a comapny "zzsounds" offering "Kable Keepers" which had- familiar initials.
Of course, if you left a lot of Audioquest interconnects in a box, a King Cobra and Alpha-Snake might breed and have a litter of ,.. oh sorry, never mind!
If you could say a bit more about the nature of the copyright infringement, it might be possible to narrow the search.
-Gosh, and in five minutes I learned a lot about the lowest prices on snake supplies! "Tastie-Rat- the quick, nutritious snack on a stick that microwaves up in only a minute and will have your Cobra begging for another in only three days!"
Cheers,
Bambi,I have got to hand it to you - that's some great sleuthing!
The site you provided with the HDMI King Snake cable was particularly interesting. You're right about those boxes - but notice all the (got-to-be) counterfiet cables there too, like the Cardas and Nordost Valhallas?
A little further down the message board is the link to King Snake's website. Their only offering seems to be HDMI cables, but their site has categories for interconnects, power cables, speaker cables, etc.
Anyway, King Snake's website is http://www.kskss.com . The domain's registered from China (surprise):

grailer,Well done yourself! I saw the kskss link, but could not get anything from the all-Chinese page- it seemed unrelated to audio as the only word I could read was "access". -You've seem to have gotten the fellow's home phone number!
Yes, the site has a lot of interesting things to offer. I don't know all the Cardas and Nordost cables offered, and it's perhaps trivial, but I return to the packaging and whereever the boxes are shown, they appear dodgy- cheap and thin, lettered in the "Baskerville Wonky" font and not tailored to secure and ship the product or protect the connectors. I don't have direct experience with Chinese counterfeit products (I hope), but the counterfeiters should realise how highly evolved the art of packaging is in the US- the box is often so glamorous it's the most impressive aspect!
China surprises me all the time- it's the most intensely external Capitalist country in the World, while an odd Socialist/Communist blend internally so there's central control of the workforce, wages, and political policy- and of course supression of anything counter to the central agenda. I've read that 50% of the high-rise construction cranes in the World are in Shanghai and Beijing and 25% of all the concrete is going to China.
> A diversion: I bought NOS tubes to retube a McIntosh MR67 and it became a game to have this tuner include tubes that came from all over the World: Argentina, Australia, Germany, Canada, Czech Republic, US, England, Holland, Austria, and Hungary are all represented. The tuner has 12 tubes and I bought from 9 countries! It should be really good on gamalon, digareeadoo, balalaika, pan pipe, and Irish Harp as well !
The last tubes were NOS Telefunken EBC91 (6AV6) from a fellow in Beijing. I thought I could't go too far wrong for $2 each (that included the shipping) and it would fulfill my desire to have the MR67 be made up of pieces from 5 Continents. These 4 tubes arrived in five days to Los Angeles and are real Telefunkens. The interesting part was that the packing was a Beijing newspaper. This was in full colour on heavy, semi-glossy paper- nicer printing than the "King Snake" box- and though I couldn't read a word, the advertising was revealing: BMW 5 series, Cadillac CTS, Cartier, Baume et Mercier, Ralph Lauren. The advertising reminded me more of "The New Yorker" than what I would expect from China! The seller, who's an engineering student, sent me a picture of his audio system. He'd designed and built the preamp and big monoblocks himself, but the speakers were Wilsons. I should write him and see if he uses "King Snake"- but he probably doesn't mess with "off-brands" and has real Valhallas! A friendly, hard-working fellow with whom I enjoyed a brief conversation. Tubes are a wonderful international language.
A country we need to watch closely! We're going to be working for them in the not too distant future if we're not careful.
This was a fun little scavenger hunt- really just a few minutes speed- Googlising- and I hope our friend Mr. Kimber et all do attain satisfaction. I really object to making money from stealing ideas and designs.
Cheers,
Do you mean King Snake Records Ray? Bob Greenlee was the owner and passed away a couple of years ago. I can help you locate who is in charge now. Bob was Root Boy Slims bass player as well as in other bands. The are/were located in Sanford Florida. They may have done cables-don't know for sure.
Hi Earl,I don't think that is the company. Thank you for your reply!
Kind regards,
Hi Ray,Some Web searches and a visit to the company website gave me an impression that it may be a Chinese or Hong Kong company. Why don't you have your Hong Kong distributor do some digging?
Hi Alan,Thank you for your reply. We have asked around overseas also and there doesn't seem to be a cable company called King Snake.
Kind regards,
Ray,Since I only found King Snake presence in Hong Kong, maybe you can have your distributor post the question here:
http://www.review33.com/avforum/
which is the biggest audio website in Hong Kong.
Guitar amp (Reverend Musical Instruments - http://www.reverendguitars.com )?
King Snake was included in a list that was all audio cable companies.
Sound King is a manufacturer of cables and have several models under the "snake" name. Of course, you're probably well aware of them.Lots of Sound King cables are listed on eBay and both Parts Express and MCM Electronics carry them. They might know a contact.
Hi grailer,I know the guys well at Parts Express, so I will get a contact from them and contact Sound King, on the off chance that they are the company.
Kind regards,
Shunyata, more than a few years ago, had their Power Snakes line, with King Cobra as a model. Too many words, though...
Hi QuadTodd,Thanks for the reply. I agree with you, Shunyata had some models with snake-like names, but they were never known as King Snake brand.
Kind regards,
NBS has or had a model called the King Serpent.
