I would like to see what you guys think are the best cables out there... you need to purchase 2 IC's, both RCA type (one is (1) meter long, the other is (2) meters long) the speaker cables you need are 8' long, and true bi-wired.
Follow Ups:
These have been working very well with *many* different component combinations. At list prices, this would be just $202 over budget for the lengths you specified.Happy listening.
Regards,
JerryS
First, I would agree with others who suggest that the money might be better spent elsewhere. If you listen to redbook CDs with any frequency there are many $3K or less CDPs that are better than the Sony SCD-1. I think your amplification might warrant a look too. Nice turntable collection! I haven't heard the Continuum 3s yet but based on Roy's other designs I assume they are great speakers.
On the subject of cables anyone's comments have to be taken with a grain of salt as cable results are more-often-than-not very system specific. I arrived at my choices after listening to NBS, MIT, Transparent, Audioquest, Stealth, Cardas, TG Audio, VH Audio, Tara, Music & Sound and Acoustic Zen. Out of that bunch and in my system I thought the Stealth, TG Audio, NBS and VH Audio worked best but YMMV. Actually the cheap M&S interconnects were shockingly good in my all balanced system and probably represented the best bang for the buck. Single-ended may be another story. Chris VenHaus is great to work with, you could do far worse than to start by talking to him. Finally, although I have not had them in my system many people I respect like the Audience AU24 cables. Good luck.
You have a nice system, Rick. Still, how'd you identify the ICs and speaker cables as the weak link? Unless your current cables are utter shite, looking at your components might get you more of a gain. What are you running now and what are you missing or hoping to get? Knowing those things will help us help you find a suitable match.
For IC's I have Signet "Maximum Transfer pcOCC" RCA cables
For Speaker Cable Signet "Music Line" zip type speaker cableI think I paid around $100 each for the IC's and the same for the speaker cable... bought the last time I upgraded cable back in 1991!!!
I'm very sure the speaker cable needs to be upgraded, and I would like to try silver IC's in the system. As far as equipment changes.. right now I believe the "weak link" would be the amplifier. I was planning to get another eVo2 and run them in mono ... but, I have also been considering one of the edge amps or even possibly the ASL Hurricane's. Does anyone ever really get satisfied? I would just like to get to a level of cables where I won't have to mess with them again for awhile.
Rick
...as are the Edge amps. Might want to take a look at the McCormack's too - they pair very nicely with the Modulus 3a.I see what you mean about the cables. You right, there are gains there to be made. Don't neglect the power cords too!
The Audience Au24 series has been suggested - good choice, IMO.
Chris' VHAudio cables are also superb. As an eletrician, it should be easy for you to fabricate his ICs yourself. They're hard to beat. You could do a lot worse cabling with his ICs and power cords. I've not heard his speaker cables.

Think of it: only $3000 for two ICs and two (well, four) eight foot speaker wires. Before I laid out much for speaker cables I'd look into what is inside the speaker enclosures. Do you really think it makes much sense spending a few thou to hook into those coils of light gauge magnet wire? They're called inductors and voice coils.
I'd go to the auto department of my local WalMart and spend $12 or so on a 50 foot reel of 14 ga. Royal Cable speaker wire, and get some gold terminals at the nearby RS. As for bi-wiring...
For interconnects, I would opt for a variety of cables in the $50 - 100 range -- low end Audioquest, Kimber, Cardas, etc., are well made cables -- and sneak in a couple of the Audioquest Scarlet Vipers Audio Advisor has on sale for less than $50/ pair, then listen for which provided the best sound in each application. Once you get past a basic quality level synergy is the dominant consideration, and there is no satisfactory way to find it other than listening.
Use the rest of the money to do something nice for your wife.
for childish comments on this forum.Feel free to spend all your money on something nice for your wife, only don't go further than WalMart.
May I suggest that you click on 'Content Rules' before submitting your next post?I try to offer good advice, derived from a lifetime involvement with music and audio. If you do not understand the wisdom of buying something nice for your wife, I expect you are spending more time listening to your system than I.

Just seen the prices...$4800 for the Tesla Apex Speaker cable, and $3000 for the first meter of Tesla Apex IC... these are priced out of my range
Rich121:Why don't you try The Tesla Accelerators? I have the IC's & speaker cables. They were a revelation in my system -- most signifiacnt cables I've ever heard, EVER.
- Fast and immediate
- Very organic and natural sounding
- Super tranparent
- Very Airy, images just float
- Soundstage galore
- Awesome decay -- spot on timbre
- Best mids & highs I've ever heard from VandersteensI can't imagine cables being much better and I've tried some of the best.
BTW: I also use their active power cords....all I can say is WOW.
I'm about to try the Teslas on my phono section. Also, there are a lot of really good comments on the AG forum on these new cables, you may want check there as well.

Cardas Golden Reference
........my choices would be either AudioQuest cables utilizing DBS, Synergistic Research with their active shielding or MIT.It is hard to listen to other cables once one has heard the attributes brought forth by DBS or active shielding.
The MIT recommendation is due to the fact that I've been a long time user of MIT speaker cables and it was only recently that the newest cables from AQ and the SR cables bumped the MIT's from their place.
Of course I have not heard the Oracle series from MIT but a second mortgage I don't need :-)
Cheers,
I have been researching both Homegrown Audio (Silver lace IC's, and X-32 bi-wire speaker cables)
and
Synergistic Research (Tesla Apex- Speaker cable, and same in IC's)
Do you have any information on what Synergistic charges for the Tesla Apex.. in both the speaker cable (8', bi-wire) and IC's?
I sent them an email.. but might take awhile.
I have a fairly decent system, I just was negligent in getting some decent cables... putting all the money into equipment and records.. etc... finally I just had to stop and look at what I can do for cable.
Any help I can get is very much appreciated!!!
Have U considered buying used cables? One can get a pretty decent discount on last years models.
Fatwyre always has good deals and right now they have an 8ft. pair of Synergistic Research Resolution Reference speaker cables, with spades and mini power coupler, for $1498. List was $2825.
I've included their link if U want to peruse their extensive cable selection.
Cheers,
~kenster
