I have a pair of Acoustic Zen Silver Reference II xlr IC's on the way .I obviously have no way of knowing the true age of the cables. The seller just said they were his extra pair. Looking at the AZ website i see this 1.5 M pair would be around $1,500.00 new and without going back and hunting the web i seem to think i saw these started being sold either around 1997 or 2001 so do cables decay to a point where they're essentially junk after a certain time or is their useful lifespan well past that of a Man's? Just wondering if even for under $500.00 could i have still made an unwise choice.

...mostly on interaction with environmental factors. And thus significantly on insulator materials used (and construction quality in general, of course), which condition the interaction with the environment. You can find stuff on longevity and aging on e.g. van den Hul's website (he has extensively studied the subject and claims significant benefits for his own Hulliflex materials and carbon & hybrid conductors). For example on cable orrosion, decline, lifespan, and time stability:
www.vandenhul.com/artpap/cable_faq.htm#i8
and there are separate papers up there on those insulator & conductor materials as well. All more trustworthy than the speculations and pseudoscience you can generally find on the web.
NO, not IME. A well designed cable should perform well for many years.
I have a pair of MAS interconnects and Siltech interconnects that are both 20 years old and they both still sound marvelous.
