I had emailed bluebird.com concerning Chord electronics and they
never responded. Also, the Chord DAC 64 now retails for $5000, and before they had distributorship, it was $3040.
Follow Ups:
Bluebird music is not an audiophile but a distributor that only wants one thing....$$$$$$. Nothing wrong with that but I've also e-mailed and called several times with no return calls or e-mails. Their customer service is not what I want from a high end distributor, just imagine if you need service!
FYI, I bought a Van den Hul Mainstream power cord from an authorised dealer in The Netherlands about 2 years back which cost me around Euro 200/. Now when I look at different websites in Europe selling these cables, I am astounded to see that the price has gone up through the roof (around Euro 350/)!!! The same cable, the same connectors! I don't know the situation in USA but better watch out.
There are 3 different VdH Mainstream power cords of differing current handling capabilty (and, no doubt, different prices). Are you comparing e.g. the 6 amp one with the 16 amp one?
Two years ago when I bought the VdH Mainstream, there was only one model available specified to handle 20 amps and it is a good one for use with my Rel subwoofer amp. Now I have a second Rel and am looking for a similar power cord but find its latest price unreasonable relative to what it was. As far as I understand, Mainstream is a high current power cord and they have a different name for low current applications, of course cheaper too.
I have attached a link to the Van den Hul wedsite and the AC cables. You will see that the two cables for the highest currect rating are of differing wire gauges. It may be that you have the thinner one and that the the quotes that you have seen at a substantially higher price have been for the thicker one. Yes the low current one has a slightly different name, Mainserver. You will see that none of the cables is rated at 20 amps, 16 amps being the highest. Perhaps there is a mistake on their website as I can't think why two gauges would have the same current rating.
Yes, you are right. The Mainstream cable is rated for 16 amps. When I bought it, there was only one power cable from VdH, The Mainstream, and there were no second Mainstream or Mainserver.
