I've been looking to replace anti-cables for some time, but most cables just don't do it for me enough to spend the $. CV's Chela looks interesting though...
just received an e-mail from the cable co. about the Synergistic Research active cables...their bottom of the line active speaker cable (Aplha Quad Active) is less than $500. has anyone tried these or active cables in general??
Follow Ups:
I am using the SynRes Alpha Quad X2 active also - 25 foot biwire runs from my amp to my Maggie 20.1s.I directly compared 8 foot lengths of Kimber 8TC, Harmonic Tech Pro 9, and Audioquest (same price range, forget the type) with the Syn Res.
I found the SynRes to be little more dynamic and alive with little other change from the HarmTech. Possibly they lowered the noise floor.
Like them alot
Hey Matt,I stepped up to AudioQuest Volcano DBS Bi-wire speaker cables from MIT MH-750 Plus about 5 months ago and they are about the "quietest" cables I have heard...or "not heard" as the case may be! Truly excellent cables and the kind that once they are installed, they just disappear so to speak. One really has to hear them for oneself to understand the attributes they bring :-)
I know these are way above your budget but AQ does make the DBS speaker cables in the ~$600/pair range.
In addition, I just stepped up to the Synergistic Research Resolution Reference REL SPEC active cable for my REL subbass systems and all I can say is....."WOW". These combined with AQ DBS Speaker cables and IC's really make a statement audiowise as to cables and how they effect ones system.
Cheers,
I have SynRes Alpha Quad X2 active. Very impressive cables. Huge soundstage, absolutely quiet and very detailed.
Do you have the 2 wallwarts powering these or the Quantum power generator??My only issue with trying these out is right now is only have 1
plug-in!
You do not need to use more then one MPC (Mini Power Coupler). All SR cables come with their own power supplies called Mini Power Couplers or MPC's. A pair of cables requires only one MPC as each MPC handles (2) cables or one pair. The Quattro power supply is for systems with lots and lots of MPC's or for slightly higher performance from Active Shielding.BTW I auditioned the new Tesla Series in my system and LOVED the Precision Reference speaker wire and Accelerator Interconnect- it displaced much more expensive wire in my system (Valhalla) at a fraction of the Nordost cables cost. I also find it curious that Kenster is using AQ "battery" cables with an SR "active" sub-woofer cable on his REL. When I auditioned Audioquest cables the sound was seriously lacking in body and texture compared to Synergistic Research Tesla cables- smooth and detailed on top to be sure, but incomplete in its presentation. Also the Audioquest sound stage was much smaller and lacked detail and was not quite as smooth and definitely not as transparent with weak low frequencies when compared to the new Synergistic Research Tesla cables. My recommendation to Kenster, since you love your REL Spec cable so much why don't you go out and try some of the new TESLA stuff- just as the Synergistic wire was better then the Audioquest on your REL Subwoofer so too will the Synergistic Research interconnects and speaker wire be better then your Audioquest Interconnects and speaker cables. It's a no brainer.
