I'm going to try a Flavor 3 cord... Do you think that upgrading to Furutech plugs would be worthwhile? The cord comes standard with cryo'd Brass WattGates, but I think I could swing the dough to get the Furutechs if it's worth it... the FI-11 (gold) plugs are available for an extra $50. The FI-25s (gold) are an additional $100. Where's the sweet spot for plugs as far as price/performance ratio is concerned? I've got to keep the total cost around or under $200. What do you think?
Follow Ups:
all my power cables now have Furutech FI-11(Cu) AC plug and FI-11(Ag) IEC connector. They work great in my system even though they are not fully broken in yet (almost two weeks now...:)
The Furutech FI-11(Cu) AC plug and FI-11(Ag) IEC connector are a great match, and are a worthy low-cost upgrade from the Wattgate Economy connectors, IME. If you ask Chris, I'm sure he will offer an insightful opinion if he thinks you should instead select the upper-line Furutech FI-25's, Oyaide, or Wattgate Audio Grade AC connectors for your particular component.I found my Flavor 3 to sound a bit bass heavy and somewhat dark when it was terminated with Wattgate Economy connectors, and enjoy it far more after I re-terminated it with a silver Wattgate 330i Ag Audio Grade AC plug and a silver Wattgate 350i Ag Audio Grade IEC connector. The Oyaide 046's would be an excellent choice, too. If your budget does not allow the more pricey connectors, I would suggest the Furutech FI-11(Cu) AC plug and FI-11(Ag) IEC connector.
If so, I would be hesitant to use them. I'm not one to regularly pull cables for contact cleaning chores... Will the contacts on these plugs oxidize if they're not cleaned regularly? If they are significantly better than the gold plated versions, I would still consider them. Are the FI-11(gold) plugs any good? Thanks for the help... I appreciate it!
