Any ideas on the type of cloth to clean phono jacks and plugs? Id rather not buy some expensive audiophile item when cheap will do. I would think that this type of cloth is slightly abrasive to remove oxidation and to give a shine. Also I'd rather use a little bit of effort rather than a chemical if it would suffice.

Not as easy or as cheap as asking the local jeweler for a polishing cloth (per audiophile36's excellent suggestion), but the Flitz polishing cloths work very well too.
I go to my local tobacconist and buy a pack of pipe cleaners. These have a a wire core, with a soft brush type material around. they can be bent easily to suit the type of connector.

I went to a restaurant that serves "breakfast at any time". So I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance.
Go to your local jeweler and ask for a cleaning cloth. They clean tarnish very well.
