I have to run 2 x 25 foot rear speakercable lenghths for a Linn 5.1 system. As it's a complex in-wall run I want to have an additional 15 feet per length to allow me to have high wall positioning option for the future. How do I run the "stored" 15 feet? I am thinking that coiling it under the floorboards would not be the best?
Parallel lengths perhaps? How far apart should each parallel run be?
Floorboards and joists may restrict so if it doesn't really matter I'll just coil them!
Cable is Canare bi-wire from Blue Jeans.
Thanks for your help.
Follow Ups:
I hope your using inwall rated wire first of all.
Having read how some people place their speaker wire on stands to get it off the floor .......
Coiling the wire, even if you don't leave it on the floor, can result in poorer cable performance - by coiling it, you've actually made an inductor. From what I've read, the best way to store extra cable is to either snake it back-and-forth in little Ss, or if you must coil it, do so in a loose figure eight pattern.
You know zero about speaker cable please refer to this which tells the truth. You can coil that 15 feet of cable all day and will not have any inductance. If you're interested, study up on inductance. You can't make a very good inductor with parallel wires, carrying equal current, but flowing in opposite directions.Actually, it does make an inductor. Two inductors, to be precise. Fortunately, since they are nearly identical, spatially adjacent, and since current flows through them in opposite directions, the effect on net circuit inductance is not there.http://www.audioholics.com/techtips/audioprinciples/interconnects/zipcordcableinductance.php
Thanks for the additional detail, Burns. You clearly have some strong feelings on the subject and as a cable dealer, I'd expect no small amount of experience.A search here will turn up lots of opinions on either side - some say it's OK to coil, most say it's not OK to coil.
Clarets2, in the absence of consensus, looks like you need to trust your ears. Try it both ways, coiled and uncoiled, and if you can hear a difference, let us know which sounds better to you.
I am in no way a dealer. I dont know why thats in my profile. And it is not my opin about the cable coil, it is fact. Why is that so hard for the people here to understand? Why is it so hard for them to look at the science behind it? Its not magic.
Oh, me bairns, me bairns..:-)
HowdyYour profile says "Burns - Dealer, Cable People, Las Vegas, United States"
I doubt that someone typed that in by accident and also took the trouble to select the 'D' option in the profile.
If that someone wasn't you and you somehow guessed his password (or he didn't use one) you should consider either:
1) pick another moniker and use a password or
2) (Since there was only one post from 'Burns' (as opposed to 'burns') before the current profile was created) correct the profile and change your password.

Thats all good and well Ted except I poosted FACT not what I thought or felt, Sorry you dont like the truth here, but thats what I gave in my post.Again its not hard to look up the science involved here and why coiling a length of speaker cable will have no effect on the sound.
If you have figured out a way to beat the physics here then please show us.
HowdyOn the other subject I'll not argue (or even "discus") it with you. If you wish to argue go elsewhere.
In particular phrases like "Please with some science explain how it could be ..." will not be tolerated. That isn't the purpose of the Cables Asylum. As I said before if you want to make such demands go elsewhere (e.g. PropHeads: http://www.audioasylum.com/scripts/tv.pl?forum=prophead )
