...or 8PR if your run is >8 feet.I did cable comparisons years ago using speakers with a very wide impedance variation (a tough load) and interestingly, even though this cable sounded a little mellow in the treble compared with some others, when I broke out my test gear and measured the transfer function, it actually had better a high frequency response and was essentially flat through the audio range.
In long term listening it satisfied while the others, which were more exciting at first, became annoying. The speakers have worn out (blasted foam surrounds) but I still use the cable. In fact I currently have two systems wired with it, one with Ti dome tweeters and one with EMIT (electromagnetic planar) tweeters and mids.
It's an accurate cable with small current loops so it's not fussy about routing and external fields. And at ~$2/foot, affordable.

Interconnect cables are at least as important as speaker cables to good sound so don't ignore them as they may well lie at the root of your discontent. Borrow some cables of different styles if you can and try them with your equipment to see if they make a difference. I think some equipment is more sensitive to cables than others and you want to see if it matters and what is possible. Be sure to try either a commercial or home-brew low capacitance unshielded cable made with small solid wire. You may be in for a pleasant surprise.
I agree. I use the Tara Labs Vector 2, which is a spaced and twisted pair between the CD player and pre-amp. This is a mighty nice cable. I think it's a bargain. This type of cable design drives me crazy... Shielded is better, right?! Nope.
You nailed it.
