Hello,I bought a nice cable with copper screen for a DIY power chord.
Sounds silly but I wonder if I have to connect the copper shield to the ground on the connection to the equipment side? I do not have ground in the power distributor block...? Or should I just leave it alone? I know it sounds very silly.

Hi.I don't think we need any shielding at all for normal home audio environment for reasonably short power cords. I compared power cords without shielding sound better than with.
But if shielding is already there, make sure you ground only the O/P end of the shielding at the chassis of the amp to drain off any EMI/RFI noises picked up by the shielding.

I don't know what connection will sound better: power cord shield connected to chassis or shield left floating. You can wire the shield to a 9-volt battery snap connector so that you can experiment with it. Another battery snap can be wired as a short, and you can listen with it connected or disconnected to see which way is better.
Al, what would be the purpose of the 9 Volt battery?
Since there is no current through or voltage present on the shield, the cheap 9-volt battery connectors available at Radio Shack work fine as two-terminal connectors to experiment with the shield-to-ground connection. Simply wire one at each end of the cable with one wire to the shield and the other to the safety earth or chassis. Make up a short by connecting the two wires of another snap together, and use this to make the shield to ground connection at one end or the other of the cord.It is good to turn off the equipment before interrupting the ground (for anyone in the USA that wants to try this).
