Thanks. I know that the signal would then be unbalanced. And I am sure that, all things being equal, I would likely purchase a pre-amp with at least one set of balanced outputs. But it seems like there are good pre-amps out available from good manufacturers that only have single ended outputs, and I did not want to rule them completely out. On the other hand, if my bought an amp with only singled ended inputs, then I can not have any benefits of balanced connnection.
Follow Ups:
Because I had long cables (that I didn't feel like selling, at the time)...I used a pair of the CARDAS RCA/XLR adaptors, when I added a single ended tubed preamp to my system, used with a Krell amp I had...worked fine, sounded fine to.
