Hi Everyone,I am looking for some help. I would like to change the amp that I am using. I currently own Merlin TSM-mm's and I would like some advice on what stereo amp to drive them with. The amp that I currently use is a Sunfire Cinema Grand. My main sorce component is a DV-18mkII from Marantz and the Processor that I use is a Rotel RSP-1066. Yes, I like home theater too. I am looking for ideas... Tube or solid state, manufactures? Something with a "bypass" would be great! I have a small budget of between 1,000 and 1,500 and I am keeping an eye on AudioGon.
Follow Ups:
Cary CAD-88R "Rocket 88". I was *very* impressed with this amp even though it was underpowered for my Gallo 3.1.Happy listening.
I liked the Rocket 88R too and although my Tannoys are somewhat sensitive at 91dB, these speakers really come alive with more power. For a small to modest room setup at moderate listening levels, the Rocket 88R is very nice.
Hi
I would think a Cary Sli 80 Sig would sound wonderful with the TSM's.
40 watts triode, 80 watts ultra linear.
Thanks to all of you participating in this conversation!
I have the TSMs as well. The amp Bobby recommends is a tube amp because the impedance of these speakers is rock solid. You can use a 30 wpc amp like his Sonum. The Sonum is expensive and the waiting time is incredbly long. Try another tube integrated used, see if you like it. I have used a simple 40wpc push pull auto bias no muss no fuss amp, and they shined. I happen to be a compulsive tube roller so it was endowed with really good tubes, but I have heard from others that own Merlins that it works fine with almost any tube amp. In fact my big tube monoblocs weren't as kind to them as the little integrated. Try Cayin they have some nice amps in your price range,I used a Consonance M100 plus has a remote even, used they are dirt cheap. Good Luck
Integrateds:
Manley Labs Stingray
Rogue CronusHere's three power amps:
Quicksilver mid monos
Manley Mahi mono blocks
