Over at the cable forum I asked about shorter IC vs. Speaker cables. Boy, what a complex subject that is.Anyways to satisfy everyone (that is wife!), I need a pair of Mono amps no more than 5 inches high outputting about 100 to 150 watts.
These Amps. have to be solid state with xlr input.If I find these amps., I am planning to put then under a couch bang between two speakers. Of course I have made consideration for heat and fire hazard.
So please recommend what you feel is worthy of replacing Mark Levinson 431 amp.
Follow Ups:
Don't know your budget, but these may work for you.
> I am planning to put then under a couch bang between two speakers <If you have a couch between your speakers, you have other issues to address before buying monoblocks........
I've seen them on A'Gon now and then. I think they fit your requirements.Good luck.
ORPHEUS LABS
The Ayre MX-R amps are amazing.
I've had mine for just under 2 weeks now. These are the best amps I have ever heard or owned, bar none.
... they're too bloody gorgeous to just stuff under a couch and deny both oneself and one's visitors the sheer pleasure of gazing upon that work of art...
Hadn't thought of that. They ARE gorgeous. 'Twould be a sin to hide an MX-R.
... that meet the requirements of:* Small Monoblock amps to fit under a couch
--> Not more than 5 inches in height
--> Cool running
* Minimum of 100 watts eachinclude:
A) Nu-Force Reference 9 (190 watts into 8ohms)
B) Jeff Rowland Design Group Model 201 (250 watts into 8 ohms)
Jeff Rowland Model 201 Webpage
NOTES:Both of these are:
- high-efficiency switching amps and run cool;
- are both less than 3.5" high (including feet);
- both offer balanced XLR inputs.Neither of these will disgrace themselves in replacing your Mark Levinson 431.
