I've tried my Shigaraki Transport and DAC with a resistor based passive preamp. Loved the tonal accuracy and stress free transparancy, disliked the flawed dynamics - musicians have narcoleptic fits. The answer could be a TVC passive. But my Shigaraki DAC has an output impedance of 2.3 kOhms, according to measurements in an old review. This is too high, says the literature on the tx102, the TVC used in popular designs. Source outputs > 1kOhm are not appreciated by the passive and will cause roll off at the frequncy extremes.
In short, does anybody have experience running a passive from his Shigaraki?
I've found tonal bliss - and now I can't get there. Ideas are greatly appreciated.
Of course I could try a TVC for myself, but that involves traveling and a full downpayement on a Music First. Other brands involve similar commitment.
Thanks, tunes10

but I have returned to and prefer the active route.
Hi Chris,With a preamp like yours I can see the attraction. What made you turn away from the TVC solution?
.
I've used my Shigaraki DAC with a Creek OBH-12 passive preamp and it sounds great. I don't see why a TVC shouldn't work.
@ Passive ChappyThe maker of the TX102 discourages high source output impedances: roll off. The thing is, with the resistor based passive I have on loan the loss of dynamics isn' t nearly as bad as I've experienced with other bypass solutions. Direct inject of Opus 21, a Denon S10 II and an old Kenwood to name a few. Lots of trouble then. The Shigaraki does much better. This seems to suggest the impedance match somehow is not such an issue. Perhaps the roll off won't occur, too.
Okay, I'm hoping it wouldn't.
BTW my set: Shigaraki player, Accuphase E-406V integrated (I use a switch in the back to bypass the pre), Dynaudio Confidence C1' s. Old Denon 57L to spin records.
My former Audio Sector NON OS Dac (1.6 ohms output) is designed similar to your dac. It worked just fine with the TVC. You'll probably be OK.

Not expensive as tvc's go and Nicholas is very helpful and accomodating.
He will custom build for his customers.
