There's really no comparison, get a TVC. I owned the Belles GR8 passive preamp for 2 years, it was terrible in comparison to my Promitheus TVC. a good tvc can be as good as, or better than, ANY preamp.a TVC preamp will change the way you enjoy this hobby IF it jives with your amp, speakers and sources.
I just jumped from 86db efficient speakers to 96db efficient. this has enhanced TVC compatibility greatly.

While I do not doubt your comparison in the least...I have only heard passive and not tvc...it just seems to me the same thing used to be said about passives period and I can't help wondering if the same thing will be said again in ten years about some other 'passive' type preamp. Of course in ten years, I may not be able to hear the difference between stereo and mono, let alone preamps. Thanks for the information...
TVC's are a whole difft ball of wax altogether. I've listened to a Creek passive, the CI audio VPC-2, the Belles GR8 and the Promitheus TVC.Except the fact that none of those need a power cord, there's no similarity.
If there's something better in ten years then YEEEEE - HAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. its gonna be a doozey of a preamp.
For now, spend $500 on a Promi TVC and good mount...it'll be a great decade.no affiliation with Promitheus Audio or fun in general.
Thanks Matt.
