Jim...Thanks for your reply. Re the Panny review, I think the review was quite favorable. Although it didn't get pass the first round, it lost by the narrowest of margin to an amp that sells for 7-8 times as much.
Follow Ups:
The Pannys can sound quite bright, even shrill, until they are broken in with many many hours of play time. Since mine is 3 years old it's detailed and natural. I wouldn't trade it for a new one.I also have a Jolida 1501RC hybrid tube/ss integrated amp. It's very nice sounding, heavily built with a BIG toroidal x-frmer. Tube rolling is fun but the Panny is better.
These days the Jolida costs $650 new, a Panny XR55 $250. Go figure!
I'm quite intrigued by the Panny. But guess what? Panasonic Canada doesn't distribute it here. Their web site has a picture of an XR57. Again, no dealer within 30 miles of me has it (as far as I know).Back to the Onkyo, I think I might oreder it from the U.S. soon. J&R charges too much for shipping. The cheapest shipping cost that I have found is from BH Photo (yes...they also carry audio products). But I don't know if they'll match J&R price.
Do let us know how the Onkyo sounds.
