Gofast...it sounds to me like you've tried to contact MF, UK for information because the people in our technical services department at Signal Path have no recollection of your trying to contact them. Sorry for the confusion. Feel free to call Rick Walker at Signal Path technical services at 704-391-0673 between 9AM and 3PM EST. When he's really busy with repairs, his assistant Kristina takes messages and he tries to get back in touch between 2-3PM. We'd prefer to handle calls immediately, but when repairs build up it's really important for Rick to concentrate on getting them back to their owners asap.
Rick repairs all MF product including out-of-warranty units from the 80's and even European units that were converted and brought over here. If the parts are unique to MF, then it can take a while as we wait for the replacement parts from the UK, but he's in constant contact with them to get the repair done asap. There is no need to find an independent service facility. Rick can handle it. Once again, sorry for the confusion; but we've been repairing older MF products for over 3 years.
We would love to be able to provide you with schematics, but are under contract with MF, UK to keep all schematics under lock and key. Some MF "copies" showed up in the far east several years ago and since then it's actually a part of our distributor's contract with MF that we not give schematics out. Sorry...
The MF dealer network has been stable for quite a while. 75% of the dealers that were set up 5 years ago are still dealers. The others have been replaced. Audio Advisor and MF parted ways almost 6 years ago. I don't mean to sound defensive or arrogant, but a solid and stable dealer network is not a problem with MF.
the last 6 years saw a flood of MF product hit the market. I don't doubt that the used market prices are very competitive.
the A5 products have been out over 2 years now; and they are the best selling integrated amp and CDP combination in the history of the company. Of course I am biased towards them but will say that the Ayre products are also very very good. Hard to go wrong with either.
I hope this post is helpful.
Hi, thats good news for MF owners. My headaches w/ MF were in the late 80s, early 90s. In 1991 I had to take an MVT to Honk Kong to get it fixed. MF UK had no responses, neither did AM when he lived in Princeton when he was doing the Chronos amps. In 99 or thereabouts one of my MA50 amps lost its toroid. Again, no response from any MF connection. I finally got a Creek toroid, that is too big for the case, and am using it externally.
One of these days I'll take the toroid out of the A1, stick it in the MA50, get another creek toroid, and make the A1 into a dual mono with external PS. I may have to wait till I retire..no time.
In the meantime, with the pound so strong, I'm trying listing an MVT on ebay UK, to see what I can get for it. Maybe I'll sell off all this stuff.
Antony Michaelson stated that he does not believe in using expensive tweak/premium parts.
But his prices for MF gear suggest otherwise...
