Recently I had the chance to try the small Trends 10.1 (Tripath based, 10-15 watts per channel).I learn with the Trends that I do not need a lot of power to get a more than decent sound level pressure with my speakers (91.5db sensivity).
If I want to try a tube integrated with something like 10 watts by channel, what should I try ?
What is the best buy in this category ?

If you are willing to consider 15 watts per channel, I can HIGHLY recommend the Antique Sound Lab MGS1 15DT integrated ($1,110). Although it's not quite powerful enough to play at loud levels with my Verity Pasfial Encores, at REASONABLE levels, it beats every other amp I've tried with those $15,000 speakers. It has more midrange magic, a more open soundstage, more musical flow, than some very highly regarded amps in the $2-$3,000 range. I'm now using it in a small room with a second system. It makes my ProAc Response 2's sound incredible. Listener magazine did a review several years ago and one of the reviewers couldn't believe the quality of this little amp. It has also been very reliable (that is, trouble-free). If you can find one used, you'd have quite a bargain.
Learn about Single Ended Triodes (SET) on google and the SET forum. There are a ton of these amps at all prices. My suggestion would be an Audio Note OTO SE at 10 Wpc
...providing your speakers have a relatively smooth impedance curve and you are not trying play music at extremely loud levels in a large room. I've heard the Audio Note OTO SE on a couple of occasions with Audio Note AN/K speakers and it was a fine musical presentation. Given the size of the room I now have and my speakers it would be a top choice for me personally. If you fancy kit building you might also look into the Audio Note Kit 2 amp which is a 12 wpc. integrated with 6550 power tubes. Keep in mind for future consideration that Audio Note usually offers a parts upgrade scheme for both their kits and factory built products. The Audio Note Kits Forum here on AA has lots of useful information. Good luck with your choice.
