Does anyone have experience with the N.E.W. (Nirvana Electronic Works) LP-3 phono preamp? N.E W. hasn't been around for quite a while and didn't sell very well, but from what I know sounded quite good. I have the possibility of getting this little preamp and and would be putting it up against my Sonic Frontiers phono preamp. Does anyone have experience with either or both of these and what are your thoughts on the sound of each. Thanks...

I still own an LP-1. It's buried in storage somewhere. It is quite a nice phono stage, although limited as it does not allow for cartridge loading and the MC gain is somewhat lower. Works best with a medium or high output MC. If you're bidding on the one listed on Audiogon I think you'll probably get it pretty cheap. If I recall it listed for about $800 new in 1996.
Yup, that's the one I'm looking at. How do you think that might compare to the Sonic Frontiers SFP-1?I already have the N.E.W. P-3 preamp and I love ths sound. I would love to put together a full N.E.W. system if possible. I've seen the amps for sale occasionally but haven't jumped at them yet. I went the tube route instead but would like to toss in these SS amps just for a change of pace and to see what kind of synergy an all N.E.W. system might create.
I owned an SFP-1, but it's been many years ago. I recall it pretty fondly, but it only replaced the internal phono card in a BAT linestage, so it didn't have to do a lot to shine. I think the phono stage of the Modulus 3A beat it pretty handily though, which is what I replaced it with.
I don't know about the Sonic Frontiers as I have never owned one, but I had the LP-1, P-3 preamp (Cary), and A-33 amp and they were very synergistic.BTW - Cary does an upgrade to the P-3 that uses 6CGF tubes that is supposed to make it a several times better.
