Hey gang.I have a lovely old Marantz 510R power amp that I'm thinking of rewiring. Awhile back, I put in new Switchcraft standard-grade RCA jacks and new Belden standard 24 ga. audio coax from the jacks to the gain pots. And it sounds great.
Given that the cable run inside the amp is only about a foot, I'm wondering if any audible improvement would be gained by swapping the existing coax and jacks for something like Cardas GRFAs or Mogami jacks and either Cardas or Mogami cable.
Any thoughts?

What really needs to be done is a complete electrolytic cap. changeout. After 30 years most if not all of them are toast by now. The best electrolytics from that era are horrible at best by today's standards. Even today's poorest quality caps. are better than those. Huge electrolytic advances occured in the '80s.
If you do not know how to desolder and solder properly, now is a great time to learn!
See if you can find some mil-spec silver litz. I prefer 22 ga. in an amp. All solder joins should have a smooth, shiny and fluid appearance.New electrolytics + audio-grade mylars in the signal path can significantly improve its performance.
I was actually only thinking of replacing the wiring & not the other stuff, though.
GENERALLY contribute marginal (small) improvements that add up. The interactions are also likely to be positive if you keep the new parts within the proper specs (which may not be the same as in your equipment, now). Better caps are always a good investment, esp in the power supply. So, i would say: go for it. Nothing but the best---Audio Note wire. Cardas is fine.
HI,
This is a job that only someone with lots of time on their hands and low expectations would take on.The improvements, if any, will be marginal. The amp, in my view, is not worth the effort. Sorry.
If you consider your time to be worth nothing then it may be a good hobby project. But if you really want great sound, buy a great amp. There are few shortcuts in this game.
I think it's a fine amp, and holds up well against many other well-regarded and expensive modern amps I've heard. But I appreciate your input.
