The Krell will drive the Dynaudio speakers with very little effort. The Krell runs class a and doubles power into each halfing of the impedance of the speaker load. So 8 ohnms produces 200W and 4 ohms is 400W and so on. It also uses plateau biasing, which means it supplies the current needed by adjusting the amps bias. Class a amps run hot but not so with the Krell With regard to sound, the Krells have class leading bass. The mids are warmer and more tubelike due to the class a amp design. The treble is very good, less grain then the NAD amps and better then most. I would say the Krell when it was new wasn't a bargain but a used 200S is a good deal, certainly better than the bridged NAD's.
Follow Ups:
I guess it depends on what it's compared to...
Almost every one describes their midrange as tube-like.
Yeah maybe, but...1. These are mid ninties amps.
2. Those reviews were wrong.HUGE DIFFERENCE
That being said, the S sustained plateau biasing amps were the best Krell has done IMHO, but I'm not a Krell fan.
Having listened to many Krell amps and having owned for a long time a KSA-50II and now a 50S, I must say that I agree with you - the 50S is outstanding in many ways.
