I had the Simaudio W5 LE and the DNA-500 at the same time. I perfered the DNA-500. I would also think that it would sound better than the 250.5 also. But I'm not a Pass Labs fan so I would not be the right person to ask about that. The DAN-500 is a very good amp but the only thing is that you need the right preamp to drive it. It has a very low input impedance.

My DNA-500 is one of those components that I just cannot justify changing. There are amps that do some things better, but nothing short of the megabuck range that I know of which provides the power, bass response, resolution and just plain fun, musical sound of the DNA-500. Others I have considered are the CJ Premire 350 or possibly going with a Tom Evans Linear B and changing to much more efficient speakers. However, I am to the point where to get better sound would likely require a revamp of my entire system.Preamps I have found to work well with the DNA-500 include the VTL 5.0 and Atma-Sphere MP-3 tube preamps (I did not like Aesthetix or SF tube preamps with this amp). Most SS preamps sound ok with it, but the Tom Evans Vibe with Pulse is far and away the best SS preamp I have heard with the DNA-500.
Mitch, I am breaking in my upgraded Vibe and Pulse 2. I recieved it back from Tom a week or so ago. It is another monster step. Check it out
I would second the DNA-500. It was the best amplifier I have heard by a large margin. I found it worked very well with the Audio Aero Capitole mk2 which has a low output impedance to avoid those issues-
Anyone using a Modwright preamp with the DNA? I'm curious whether this might make a good match.
