Here's a review of the Onkyo a-9555. It was compared to several amps some of which were more expensive. It did quite well!

Thanks, Jim, for the link. The Onkyo did pretty well indeed. The comparison between the Sonneteer and the lowly Panasonic HT receiver was also interesting. By the way, I notice that most HT receivers now have digital signal inputs. Does this mean that I can connect my CD player to it and use its DAC? Thanks.

Regarding the Panny XR55 review; I wonder if they allowed a break-in period for that unit. My panny XR50 is 3 years old and sounds awesome.
Jim...Thanks for your reply. Re the Panny review, I think the review was quite favorable. Although it didn't get pass the first round, it lost by the narrowest of margin to an amp that sells for 7-8 times as much.
The Pannys can sound quite bright, even shrill, until they are broken in with many many hours of play time. Since mine is 3 years old it's detailed and natural. I wouldn't trade it for a new one.I also have a Jolida 1501RC hybrid tube/ss integrated amp. It's very nice sounding, heavily built with a BIG toroidal x-frmer. Tube rolling is fun but the Panny is better.
These days the Jolida costs $650 new, a Panny XR55 $250. Go figure!
I'm quite intrigued by the Panny. But guess what? Panasonic Canada doesn't distribute it here. Their web site has a picture of an XR57. Again, no dealer within 30 miles of me has it (as far as I know).Back to the Onkyo, I think I might oreder it from the U.S. soon. J&R charges too much for shipping. The cheapest shipping cost that I have found is from BH Photo (yes...they also carry audio products). But I don't know if they'll match J&R price.
Do let us know how the Onkyo sounds.
