Is anyone familiar with a decent sounding aftermarket power cord that isn't so thick and stiff? I'm putting together a system in a small room and flexibility in the cabinet would be nice.Otherwise it's probably more signalcables....
Follow Ups:
I tried most of 'em; Mapleshade, Nordost, Black Sand, Audio Metallurgy, MIT, Kimber, API, Belden, PS Audio. Sold them all on Audiogon/Ebay to get this:
GTT Audio Absolute Power Cord. (http://www.gttgroup.com/absolutepower.html)
The kicker? They cost all of $50 each! These things really made a positive difference in my system, and I felt like a fool in spending $2000+ on power cords in the past. (System is McIntosh MA2275, Avalon Opus, Linn LP12/Cirkus/Trampolin/Arkiv/etc). I am not a shill for them, I'm just an extremely satisfied customer. YMMV ;-)

an boy what a steal they are!!
About as flexible as it gets.
Flexible yes, but cellophane wrapped and $150 for 4.5 feet? Ouch in more ways than one! ;-)
I've heard them in a system and they sounded good, but no one wanted to touch the thing.
Their completely over the top marketing language and reports of less than ethical treatment of their recording artists make me want to give them a pass. The AC cords do look scary.
After the fire, when the insurance adjuster sees the remains of the power cord.
You could be screwed.
Just got one for my LCD monitor.Thin but works as good as the thick ones
I'm a big fan of Jena Labs cables, and they make several different power cords, all excellent.
The Ultrakahns and Epiphanies are as thick as a garden hose (actually thicker) but are very light weight and reasonably flexible. They sound terrific, at least to me, and their price has plummeted in the last year.
I just replaced the PS Audio Xtreme Punch cables with Kimber Kable PK-10 PowerKables. First of all the sonic benefits were obvious. Secondly the PK-10 may be a slighly larger diameter than my previous cable but the are much, much more flexible and pliable to work in tight quarters. You might also consider the PK-14 which is still a fine cable though a smaller gauge.
...I have used Gilbert's cords on many different components with excellent results. They occassionally come up on A-gon for around $100.
I'm a big BC fan but the power cords and cables *aren't* the reason to buy BC!
No Guru, No Method, No Teacher
I own both the TG Audio SLVR and the Audience PowerChord. The TG Audio has been better sounding on everything I've tried it on (not that the Audience is bad) and it is nearly as flexible.
.
I have reciently changed to the Shindo Power Cord. It's an incredible bargain at around 400.00. It is very flexible even more then the Audience.
..........keep in mind that I don't personally use these cables but they have gotten rave reviews in the press and other inmates here have nothing but praise for them as well.Cheers,
